Beaches
The fashionable appearance of a genuine spa-town makes the beach at Knokke-Heist such a popular place. The sandy beach of Knokke-Heist is located northeast of Brugge’s seaport and is Belgium’s best-known beach. The long stretch of sand is beautiful and clean. It is over twelve kilometres in length, approximately seventy metres wide and is situated besides a wonderful parallel boulevard. Even on its busiest days, this beach is not too crowded when you walk a bit further up the beach.
Facilities
Near the beach you can find sufficient parking space, but you can also easily reach the beach by bus or train. At the beach you can find several beach pavilions and in Knokke-Heist are many restaurants and bars as well. At the beach you can also rent surf equipment. At the het Zoute beach, you can find several distinguished clubs, for family beaches you should try Albertsstrand, Duinbergen and Heist.
Furthermore the many cafes, terraces and restaurants near the beach will take care of the needs for serving drinks and snacks or lunch and diner.
Beach tips
- At low tide there is a strong current towards the sea, than stay close to shore. In case you get pulled in by the current do not try to swim straight against it, but swim slanting to the shore with the current. Also be aware of floating devices like air-beds, boats or other swimming devices.
- Do not get to close to the poles, piers or other obstacles.
- Watch your children carefully, do not let them alone near the water. Are there recognition signs on the beach, tell it to your children.
- Help to keep the beaches clean.
